Let's Talk about Collagen
Collagen is everywhere at the moment.
Powders. Drinks. Gummies. Creams.
Apparently if we put COLLAGEN in giant letters on the label, we can charge a fortune for it. 😂
But here’s the bit people forget:
Your body already makes its own collagen.
So before you rush off to buy another expensive tub, maybe give your body the things it actually needs to do the job.
Vitamin C helps your body make collagen.
MSM gives you sulphur, which is useful for healthy connective tissue — skin, joints, tendons, ligaments... basically the bits holding us together.
Hyaluronic Acid helps keep the skin hydrated and supports the environment where collagen-producing cells do their work.
And Vitamin E helps protect the skin from oxidative damage that can contribute to collagen breakdown.
So my way of looking at it is:
Vitamin C helps make it.
MSM supports the tissue around it.
Hyaluronic Acid helps create a good environment for it.
Vitamin E helps protect it.
Simple.
And collagen creams?
This is one of my favourites.
You cannot rub collagen onto your face and expect it to wander down into the deeper layers and become new collagen.
The molecules are too big.
So yes, your collagen cream may feel lovely.
But no, it is not filling your face back up with collagen.
Sorry. 😂
And the powders?
I’m not saying collagen powders are useless.
Some people love them.
I just don’t think swallowing collagen is the only answer, and I definitely don’t think everyone needs to spend a fortune on it.
I’ve used good old gelatine powder in a hot drink for years.
Cheap. Simple. No glamorous tub. No dramatic promises.
